Summer Camp Director

 

General Description

 

The Program Director will be responsible for the smooth and efficient running of the summer programs; he/she will develop the various programs’ activities, recruit community resources, oversee the education, social and recreation aspects of the program; liaise with parents and community members and ensure safety and security standards are met. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and approving program plans done by other staff (Coordinators); ensuring the plans are appropriately modified for each age group and for each weekly theme.

He/she will rotate between sessions to observe the program and make notes to suggest improvements. The Camp Director will complete weekly evaluation reports for staff and volunteers, to be kept on file in the event of a request for a reference letter.

They are required to lead the daily de-briefing meetings to facilitate discussion of issues that were observed throughout the day, suggestions, ideas and ways to improve as a team. The Summer Camp Director will work closely with the SLIFO Administrator to ensure the entire Summer Program is efficiently managed.

 

 

General Requirements

 

  • Completion of a high school diploma and current or completed post- secondary enrollment
  • Extensive experience with leading children and youth, in both educational and recreational programs
  • Experience with program planning in Islamic Studies, Arts and Crafts, Physical Activity, and other camp areas
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing a group of staff and volunteers
  • Excellent customer service, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to approve and critique program plans, and perform staff evaluations
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Excellent Oral and Written communication skills
  • Good Judgment
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, specifically MS excel

Leadership Coordinator

 

General Description

 

The Leadership Coordinator will work closely with the Summer Camp Coordinator to hire and train all volunteer camp counsellors. They must create a training session that includes SLIFO’s expectations of camp, rules, and protocol for emergency situations. They must ensure that diversity and ally ship is implemented into training. Leadership Coordinators will act as liaisons between counsellors and the Summer Camp Coordinator. They are the first line of contact for any concerns with counselors. They must also ensure the well-being of all counsellors, acting as the primary support system for all volunteers. They will collaborate with the academic and event coordinators and evaluate the work of all counsellors to ensure all outcomes are met.The leadership coordinator will also be responsible for office-related and operational functions of the camp, including maintaining student registration, tuition fees, health cards and health related documentation, staff and student attendance, booking of field trips, newsletter production, website updates, audio/visual production and other office related tasks. They will also be responsible for maintaining the budget and cash flow of the programs using software such as MS Excel. The Academic Coordinator will work closely with the SLIFO Administrator to ensure all accounting for the Summer Program is accurately managed.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to plan, organize and execute creative and effective daily workshop programs for youth in areas including but not limited to leadership, community service, Islamic Studies

The Academic Coordinator

 

General Description

The Academic Coordinator will be responsible for implementing proper educational content into camp programs. They must create an education plan that outlines learning outcomes for each day of camp. They will organize and create presentations regarding each camp theme that are educational and set the tone for the rest of the camp events. They will work closely with the events coordinator to ensure that all the educational outcomes are integrated with the games and activities. They will ensure that camp counselors are informed of the learning goals for the campers. 

 

General Requirements

 

  • Completion of a high school diploma and current post-secondary enrollment
  • Able to handle large amounts of data (online spreadsheets and paper forms)
  • Demonstrates organizational skills
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficiency in processing, managing, reconciliation of money and financial data.

Events Coordinator

 

General Description

The Events coordinator will be designing all the camp programs including games, activities, and workshops. They will connect with community leaders and outside organizations to provide fun activities for campers. They will work closely with the academic coordinator and Summer Camp Director to ensure all educational outcomes in the Academic Coordinators portfolio are integrated in their activities. Events coordinators will inform counselors of all possible activities and oversee that outcomes are properly met by the counselors. They will collaborate with the Leadership Coordinator and evaluate each counselor’s ability to lead activities and work with them to improve in the future.

 

General Requirements

 

  • High School Diploma and Post- Secondary Enrollment or completion
  • Experience working with children age 5-13
  • Creativity when planning events
  • Organization to keep on track of weekly plans
  • Excellent Oral and Written communication skills
